Catherina Maisel
Since when have you been with IN VIA?
Since November 2022
What is your area of responsibility?
I work in refugee and integration counselling for adults.
Describe yourself in 3 adjectives
Unbiased, warm, not a friend of multi-tasking
What is a good day?
I don't find this question easy to answer because there are so many things that make a day a good one. It can be a smile, a good conversation or a moment of creativity. I also like it when I have achieved something that I set out to do.
What do you like about your work?
I like working with my great team and the contact with my clients.
I enjoy communicating across language barriers and I think it's great that our counselling topics are so diverse, so the work never gets boring.
Last but not least, the fact that I fully support what we do every day in the area of migration at IN VIA.
What are the challenges and successes for you at IN VIA?
I sometimes find the battle with bureaucracy challenging. And when clients find themselves in very desperate situations where there is little I can do to help.
I see every small improvement in my clients' living situation as a success. This can be obtaining a residence permit, starting a language course, stabilising their financial situation or simply having a more positive, hopeful view of the future. I particularly like it when people become aware of their own strength during the counselling process and find the courage to go their own way.
If you had one wish, what would it be?
I would like people to be guided less by fear and more by love and confidence.
